The Grand Seiko 5646-8000 is a manual wind watch of the 56GS family. Even though the 56GS were marketed as Hi-Beat, they were running at 28,800 bph instead of the convenctional 36,000 bph.
There are four different versions of the 5646-8000, two in stainless steel and two with a solid 18k gold case, distinguishable by their catalog references.
56GAW 030: stainless steel, white dial
56GAW 035: stainless steel, dark blue dial
56GAW 036: 18k yellow gold, linen dial
56GAW 086: 18k yellow gold, starlight dial
The first appearance in the official Seiko catalogs is in the 1972 issue, while the last appearance is in the first volume of 1973.
There is a date only version of both the stainless steel and the 18k gold watches, with reference 5645-8000.
